We completed an outdoor lighting project today in Vienna, Virginia. Our customer first had us install lighting on their new patio earlier this year. They honored again by having us come back and install lighting on the landscape and the house. This additional lighting not only have the house a safer and more welcoming feel, but it also dramatically expanded the scope of lighting on their property.
They went from a few lights built into the patio and a couple of path lights around the patio, to having lights in the farthest corners of the property. Prior to today, they had beautiful lighting at the patio, but they were looking out into darkness.
We created different stages of light by first lighting some of the smaller trees such as some Crape Myrtles and other ornamental trees. We they selected a couple of large trees to create a final backdrop. We were selective in choosing the trees we up lit as many “designers” just put lights on every tree. This generally looks distracting an too busy. Our thought in this design was to bring together the home, landscaping, and back patio. Strategically choosing certain trees made such a dramatic impact versus just lighting every tree.
